History of Northern Star Lodge

Northern Star Lodge No. 377 was originally chartered in 1873, in Garrett's Bluff, Lamar County, Texas, but for reasons as yet undiscovered, the Lodge demised, and in 1884 returned its charter to the Grand Lodge of Texas.

On October 13, 2007, at a meeting of the Trustees of the Grand Lodge of Texas, a formal request was submitted from a group of 21 Texas Masons to restore the charter of Northern Star Lodge No. 377. Several months of careful planning and preparation had preceded this official request, and upon examination, R:.W:. Brother Tom Guest, Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge of Texas, determined that all of the paperwork was in proper order; and after reporting this to the Grand Master, M:.W:. Brother Donny W. Broughton approved the charter restoration.

On November 28, 2007, in a special ceremony that was equally joyous and solemn, the charter was restored, Northern Star Lodge No. 377 was set to labor, and her founding officers duly and constitutionally installed into their respective offices. Grand Master Broughton presided over these ceremonies, with the assistance of his appointed Grand Lodge officers, 16 of his District Deputy Grand Masters from all over north Texas, and Past Grand Master David B. Dibrell. This ceremony was one of the last official acts of M:.W:. Brother Donny Broughton's tenure as Grand Master of Masons in Texas in 2007.
